Overcoming Serious Learning and
Reading Difficulties

Jacques Erasmus

Since Grade 2 Jacques Erasmus experienced serious learning and reading difficulties. He had difficulties with reading and spelling, and a poor handwriting. His teacher complained about concentration and attention problems. He had difficulties copying from the blackboard and his written work was poor.

An assessment by a psychologist indicated that Jacques had an above-average intelligence. In fact, his verbal IQ was in the superior range.

A full year of occupational therapy and several months of reading therapy did little to alleviate Jacques problems. After consultation with Dr. Jan Strydom, an Audiblox program was customized for Jacques.

At the time of this consultation Jacques was in an Afrikaans school. Jacques' parents desired to move him to an ACE-school, where he would receive his schooling in English. Dr. Strydom advised, however, that Jacques should remain in the Afrikaans school until his scholastic problems have been overcome.

Within only a few months after starting on Audiblox, it became clear that Jacques was on a path to victory. Despite a lengthy overseas trip of his parents during May which necessitated an unfortunate interruption of his Audiblox program for a little over six weeks, his performance nevertheless warranted the move to the new school.

Jacques is currently twelve years old and in Grade 7 at Anchor Christian Academy, Pretoria, South Africa. Anchor is part of School of Tomorrow, following Accelerated Christian Education (ACE), an individualized, self-paced, Biblically-based learning system. Despite the high standards at Anchor Christian Academy, Jacques’ progress is simply phenomenal, scoring a year to date overall average of 95.47%.

At the time of writing Jacques was still doing Audiblox. The reason for this is no longer that he has any learning or reading problem, but rather to become a really outstanding student with an exceptional reading ability.

Well done Jacques, you truly are a STAR!
